Position: Development Manager
Reports to: Executive Director
Location: Cleveland, OH
Hours: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Salary: Commensurate with experience

 JOB SUMMARY:
The Development Manager will work in collaboration with the America SCORES Cleveland staff and Board of Directors to lead or assist in various aspects of our fundraising strategy, including managing and cultivating donors, planning and implementing fundraising events, conducting an annual appeal and writing grants. Through all activities, the Development Manager is a story-teller and relationship manager, educating the Cleveland community about our mission, program and impact that we have on our students. This position reports to the America SCORES Cleveland Executive Director. Our organization serves over 1,000 students in Cleveland with a current annual budget of $550K.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Contribute to the America SCORES Cleveland team and overall operations: actively participate in annual goal-setting, initiatives, events, and day-to-day functioning with a team-centered approach; be open to giving and receiving constructive feedback; be open to fulfilling necessary jobs or roles as needed.

Corporate, Foundation and Individual Donor Fundraising

  • Serve as lead on grant writing and reporting
  • Assist Executive Director and Board with corporate and foundation fundraising, which includes researching potential partners, developing presentations and packets, and participating in meetings and site visits
  • Engage/recognize sponsors throughout the year through newsletters, reports, poems, pictures, thank you letters, program site visits, etc.
  • Organize and implement annual appeal / Giving Tuesday for new and existing donors
  • Strive to increase the number of individual donors and their level of giving
  • Track all donations in online management system
  • Develop & maintain annual Fundraising Calendar

 Fundraising Events

  • Coordinate planning and implementation of annual fundraising events, including creation of timelines, goals, budget, and action plan – key events are corporate soccer tournament and an annual gala
  • Work with staff, committees, and volunteers to ensure event plan execution
  • Create and administer event ticketing and registration processes
  • Assist Executive Director in meeting revenue goals for each fundraising event

 Oversee Associate Board

  • Associate Board – Serve as lead support person for the Associate Board
  • Create goals and action steps for the Associate Board

 Support Fundraising Committee

  • Fundraising Committee – Serve as lead staff person to the Chair of the Fundraising Committee
  • Maintain committee notes and action items and work with committee chair to complete tasks and communicate to the entire committee, staff, and board any items needed for committee-related work

 QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Passionate about America SCORES’ mission, urban & public school education, youth development, creative writing and soccer
  • Willingness and ability to learn quickly and pick up new skills
  • Proactive and able to work independently, reporting updates in a timely manner to the Executive Director
  • Excellent organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple projects and work under pressure
  • The ability to build relationships among a diverse group of constituents including program participants, board members and donors
  • Excellent written communication skills – both formal (i.e. grants) and informal (i.e. emails)
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups
  • Proactively identifies and creatively solves problems
  • Undergraduate degree
  • At least two (2) years proven experience in either a public, private or non-profit organization.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Candidates should own a car, as program sites are scattered throughout the city.
  • Candidate must pass a background check.
  • Must be flexible, dependable, and have a good sense of humor

 Preferred:

  • Prior experience working in Development, Grant Writing, and/or Event Planning
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Business, Creative Writing, English, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Background in sports; soccer experience preferred
  • Proficiency in digital communications (social media, emails, etc.)
  • Some experience with Adobe InDesign and/or Photoshop

Up2Us Sports coach

Founded in 2010, Up2Us Sports is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring youth to achieve their potential by providing them with coaches trained in positive youth development. We do this by identifying, training and supporting coaches in their communities who bring sports-based youth development to the most underserved communities. The Up2Us Coach and Up2Us Training programs empower youth-based organizations across the country to become a united force for meaningful change. Up2Us Coach is the first national service program to identify and train young adults to coach and mentor kids in low income communities. Coaches are trained in youth development and mentoring strategies to promote physical activity, healthy living, and good decision making, while cultivating caring, trust-based relationships with the youth they serve.

America SCORES is the nation’s only after-school program that empowers students in urban communities using soccer, writing, creative expression, and service-learning. America SCORES inspires urban youth to lead healthy lives, be engaged students, and have the confidence and character to make a difference in the world. America SCORES Cleveland provides unique after-school and summer programming for 1,000 youth, teaching soccer, creative writing, and service-learning to measurably improve fitness, literacy, and community engagement.

Responsiblities:

• Assist program staff in providing high quality youth sports development and literacy programming.
• Lead team of 15 students in soccer and health programming at one of America SCORES’ school
• Assist or substitute for America SCORES soccer or writing coaches for practices and lessons.
• Distribute and collect supplies from our school partners, including uniforms, evaluations, etc.
• Communicate regularly with coaches at the schools to ensure program quality.
• Attend and participate in coach trainings.
• Assist with the collection and inputting of program evaluation data.
• Assist with student-centered service-learning projects throughout the community.
• Oversee game day logistics and referee soccer games.
• Assist in the planning and day-of duties for America SCORES events, including volunteer recruitment.
• Lead soccer camps during the summer, winter and occasionally on weekends.
• Encourage participants to gain and develop life skills, knowledge, and techniques through sport,
using lessons learned at Up2Us Sports’ best in class training events
• Perform data collection activities, as directed by your Up2Us Sports Program Manager
• Act as a role model, gaining the respect and trust of the community and youth served

Requirements:
• Ability to commit to minimum of 900 hours of service between August 2019 and July 2020.
• Some college/or college degree preferred.
• At least three years of experience in at least one sport; soccer experience preferred.
• Experience coaching and instructing youth programs.
• Access to reliable transportation, as program sites are scattered throughout Cleveland.
• Excellent organizational ability and ability to work well under pressure.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills among diverse constituents.
• Dependable, flexible, sense of humor.

Soccer Coach

Responsiblities:

  • Plan and Implement soccer practices (10-week fall & 10-week spring seasons) for 15 poet-athletes.
  • Ensure the safe arrival and departure of poet-athletes to and from game day sites.
  • Assist America SCORES Cleveland Staff with field set up and take down.
  • Distribute, collect, and maintain America SCORES Cleveland issued equipment.
  • Have poet-athletes properly dressed (i.e. socks, shin guards, shorts, jersey).
  • Abide by America SCORES Cleveland league rules, organizational guidelines, and game day schedules.
  • Teach and promote teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
  • Complete daily attendance forms and submit weekly to Liaison.
  • Distribute snacks to children in accordance with snack distribution guidelines on soccer workshop days.
  • Communicate regularly with America SCORES Cleveland staff.
  • Communicate regularly with other SCORES Coaches at your school.
  • Attend one writing workshop per season.
  • Use the America SCORES soccer curriculum as a basis for instruction.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a team player who is committed to the mission of America SCORES and has experience working with youth. A Soccer Coach should have: minimum of High school diploma, must be at least 20 years old or older and have some sports experience (either as a coach or player).  All coaches MUST be able to pass a background check. A Soccer Coach is required to attend America SCORES Cleveland training sessions and events (Fall Frenzy!, Poetry Slam!, and Jamboree!).

Writing Coach

Responsiblities:

  • Plan and Implement writing workshops (10-week fall & 10-week spring seasons) for 15 poet-athletes.
  • Submit student work (typed & emailed) to the Program Manager on or before the deadline date
  • Prepare students for the Poetry Slam! and to complete their community service projects.
  • Teach and promote teamwork, cooperation and sportsmanship.
  • Complete daily attendance forms and submit weekly to Liaison.
  • Distribute snacks to children in accordance with snack distribution guidelines on writing workshop days.
  • Communicate regularly with other members of the SCORE Corps at your school.
  • Communicate regularly with America SCORES Cleveland staff.
  • Attend one soccer practice per season.
  • Use the America SCORES Cleveland creative writing curricula as a basis for instruction.

Requirements:
The successful candidate will be a team player who is committed to the mission of America SCORES and has experience working with youth. A Writing Coach should have: minimum of 2 years of college (education degree preferred) and must be at least 20 years old or older. All coaches MUST be able to pass a background check. A Writing Coach is required to attend America SCORES Cleveland training sessions and events (Poetry Slam!, and Jamboree!).

This position pays: $25 for a 60 minute session, and $35 for a session which are more than 75 minutes.
